What is NLP?

NLP ( Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a powerful system of thinking that can accelerate the achievement of your personal and professional goals and outcomes. NLP is a users manual for your Brain. Its a way of understanding HOW people do what they do and HOW to upgrade what you do. It allows you to change, adopt or eliminate behaviours  and gives you the ability to choose your mental, emotional and physical states of well-being. In effect NLP is a powerful change management tool that transforms the way people think and act to have the greatest impact both professionally and personally. Along with the above NLP is also a model of effective communication that is used successfully by some of the worlds leading communicators and successors in their chosen fields; Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, JK Rolling ,Tiger Woods, Andre Agassi, Bill Gates, to name but a few. This is some but not all of why NLP is one of the most powerful skills used in business management, psychology, sales, sports coaching, and all forms of personal development.

“NLP may be the most powerful vehicle for change in existence.” — Modern Psychology Magazine

Manual Handling is Not Just About Objects

When people think about manual handling and the need for manual handling training, the vast majority will think of warehouse workers lifting and carrying heavy boxes around or something like that.

This is most certainly a high-risk place of work when it comes to the potential for manual handling injuries to occur, virtually every place of work will have items which need to be manipulated and, subsequently, a very real manual handling risk.

So whilst a factory or warehouse may be the most obvious examples, there are also places of work that contain a danger to employee’s health and safety with regards to manual handling risks that people may not initially think of.Manual Handling

For example, whilst most people will think of boxes or the like, manual handling loads do not have to be inanimate objects, and includes animals or people. This will incorporate places of work such as hospitals or care homes where employees have to lift or move patients into/out of beds, or on farms where workers or vets have to physically handle the animals. They may not be the first examples that spring to mind when thinking or workplaces, they are indeed still a place of work and are still subject to health and safety requirements with regards to the health and safety of workers including the need for manual handling risk assessments. The results of these risk assessments may identify the need for additional manual handling training or the requirement for mechanical aids such as lifting equipment to be installed and utilised.

Manual Handling Courses

The NAS Centre provides manual handling training, manual handling & patient Handling (People Moving) courses can be booking online or by phoning 051-333960 or email [email protected]

People Moving Workshop for Family Carers

People Moving Workshop for Family Carers

In Waterford there are 4823 family carers (Census 2011), providing valuable care and support.  It’s very important that they have access to learning skills that will assist them to carry out this role.

Back injuries are prevalent in many health service workers, carers and those with the responsibility of moving patients and this prompted the NAS Centre to create a workshop that looks at ways of avoiding back injury and making it easier for family carers.  The workshop is called People Moving Workshop for Family Carers.  The NAS Centre provides training in this area to Nurses and Carers and the content of these workshops is based on the same techniques.

The People Moving Workshop for Family Carers is relevant to family carers who have to assist family members stand, walk or move them when they are in bed.  Appropriate training, advice and practical demonstrations will give participants on the course an understanding on how to look after themselves and avoid injury. The course content is comprehensive and covers areas such as looking after your back, safe moving techniques, chair to chair / bed transfers, and also demonstration of equipment such as sliding sheets and hoists.
