BLS for Healthcare Providers (Irish Heart Foundation) Course

This course covers core materials such as adult and paediatric CPR, use of bag masks, foreign body airway obstruction and automated external defibrillation.

 

The course is of approximately 6 hours duration. It is interactive and participants learn by practicing all the steps under the guidance of the instructor.

 

This course is designed for health care providers such as Nurses, doctors, dentists who require a credential documenting successful completion of a CPR course.

 

A BLS for HealthCare Providers card will be issued to participants who successfully complete a written exam and skills test.

Occupational First Aid Refresher June 25th 2015

This 1 day refresher course meets FETAC level 5 standards in First Aid training and the participant is refreshed to the FETAC  qualification level and thus keeping their certification in date.

Participants must have a current Occupational First Aid Certificate.

The course will provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to co-ordinate first aid in the workplace.

Basic First Aid June 19th 2015

This Basic First Aid Course is designed for people who wish to assist in the event of an emergency or for businesses who don’t have a need for an Occupational First Aider or which to have support to the Occupational First Aiders.  The course is ideal for smaller workplaces that present few health & safety risks, where a nominated person is required to take charge in the event of illness or accident.

The course will give participants an outline of what is required in regard to emergency care and inform them of their duties in regard to first aid equipment.

Basic First Aid Course overview:

  • Airway Management
  • Wound Control
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Equipment & Supplies
  • Alerting the Emergency Services
  • CPR

If the course is attended in the NAS Centre the cost is inclusive of:

Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for the practical aspects of the course, ie CPR.

The NAS Centre offers Manual Handling training courses at our purpose built training facility.  We use the most up to date equipment and techniques, provide participants with the necessary skills and information to care for their backs using a minimal lifting policy.

Course Content:

  • Definition of Manual Handling
  • Legal aspects of Manual Handling
  • Structure and injury of the Spine
  • Risk assessment
  • Fitness and flexibility
  • Principles of safer moving and handling

The practical aspects of the course include:

Inanimate Lifting

Lifting a load from:

  • Floor to Floor
  • Bench to Bench
  • Bench to height
  • Pulling/Pushing
  • Team handling

There is also plenty of time for questions and participants are free to request any further practical skills they wish to include.

Occupational First AidThis 3 day Occupational First Aid course meets FETAC level 5 standards in First Aid training and is valid for 2 years.  It is suitable for people who wish to become First Aiders in the Workplace.  This programme requires a high level of participation and interaction.

The course will provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to co-ordinate first aid in the workplace.

The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 8 units.

Unit 1                        First aid in the workplace
Unit 2                        Patient assessment
Unit 3                        Respiratory emergencies
Unit 4                        Cardiac first response
Unit 5                        Wounds and bleeding
Unit 6                        Altered levels of consciousness
Unit 7                        Musculoskeletal injuries

Assessment and Certification

  • Certification assessments (theory and practical) will take place on day 3
  • Successful completion of the course and assessments results in issue of FETAC level 5 Certificate

The NAS Centre offer Manual Handling and Patient Handling training courses at our purpose built training facility.  We offer patient handling using the most up to date equipment and techniques, provide participants with the necessary skills and information to care for patients and clients using a minimal lifting policy.

 

Course Content:

  • Definition of Manual Handling
  • Legal aspects of Manual Handling
  • Structure and injury of the Spine
  • Risk assessment
  • Fitness and flexibility
  • Principles of safer moving and handling

The practical aspects of the course include:

Inanimate Lifting

Lifting a load from:

  • Floor to Floor
  • Bench to Bench
  • Bench to height
  • Pulling/Pushing
  • Team handling

Patient Handling techniques can include:

  • Log rolling
  • Sitting patient up in bed (3 techniques)
  • Turning patient in bed using sliding sheets
  • Moving patient up the bed using sliding sheets
  • Sitting Patient to edge of bed
  • Standing patient
  • Transferring patient from bed to chair using various methods
  • The falling patient
  • Trolley Transfers
  • Use of hoists

Other techniques can be included and we can adapt the content of the patient handling to suit individual requirements.
